Stopping to Smell the Roses…and the Letterboxes and the Telegraph Poles

Share:

Much like our puppy Franklin, I am an extrovert with tendencies toward ADHD. I thrive in situations with high levels of stimulation and I crash on the couch when I get home. A celebration of life yesterday reminded me that life is too short to press fast-forward.

I always feel the need to be doing something. No matter how many things I knock off my to-do list though, it keeps growing.

Our fast-paced world won’t gift us time to slow down. We have to steal moments to appreciate the beauty and simple joys in our days. We can intentionally take time within the daily grind to be curious, mindful and thankful.

Yesterday’s morning walk with Franklin reminded me to savour moments. Our trip around the local neighbourhood took double the time it ought, because our furry friend was stopping at every garden, post and letterbox. He was responding to curiosity, letting his senses guide the way. I let him, even in the rain.

Yesterday’s celebration was for a wonderful man whose life was cut-short. It was a powerful reminder that even in chaotic times, it is worth taking a moment to pause, breathe and appreciate what we have.
